I have no idea what I am doing….

Updated: Feb 27

I have drawn pictures ever since I could hold a pencil. Or crayon.

It has been my way to express and enjoy my whole life.

Studying at Famlmout University, now, has made me realise that all of these years- I actually had no idea what I was doing.

The Masters Degree in Illustration has opened my eyes, wide, into the world of illustration. It has cleared a pathway right in the middle of the forest of life, created an opening for me to stop and reflect, to absorb all of the aspects on offer and to show me who I am as not only an illustrator but a visual communicator.

During lockdown, I stumbled upon surface pattern design, digitally printed textiles and the creation of seamless patterns.

For the first time in my life I overwhelmed myself with the fact that my drawings may be something more.

I found spoonflower and dived straight in feet first with no idea what I was doing!

Assumption had me in the grasp that I should just draw anything and have that digitally printed on to fabric.

So I did.

A lot.

And here I am now, sat at my little study desk, having only been with Falmouth a few months- wishing a big hole would erupt from the tufts of the carpet below me and swallow me up in one huge gulp!

I am challenged with undoing that drawing path I have created and beginning a brand new path, an illustrative one with shiney illustration super powers that I have developed.

How do I do that?

I just keep swimming.

Keep moving forward, keep drawing, keep learning.
